Fremont, Neb. – (Oct. 15, 2024) Fremont Public Schools heard an update on the Fremont High School CTE Center Construction Curriculum Monday evening during their monthly Board of Education meeting from Jason Novotny. Novotny is the construction tech teacher for the High School. His students recently completed the interior and exterior framing for Fremont Area Habitat for Humanity’s most recent project at 4th & I Streets in Fremont. During the presentation, a schedule for the district-owned house build was presented which includes moving the house to a school district owned Grant Elementary School lot on East 2nd Street. “The design of the house fits well in the neighborhood,” commented Novotny. “The students are involved with many local contractors representing the various trades, working side by side learning their craft.” The house is slated to be completed during this school year. The house build exposes students to a variety of opportunities for future careers. Novotny shared that the public is invited to follow the progress of the build by viewing the construction through the exterior glass door or hallway windows as they enter the school for various evening activities throughout the school year.
The Board of Education approved the purchase and installation of new playground equipment and ground cover for Linden Elementary from Creative Sites. “This project will upgrade the 25 year plus playground with the same equipment as the District installed this summer at the three new elementary schools,” shared Dr. Brad Dahl, associate superintendent. “This project will bring the playground at Linden up to current standards,” he concluded. The total cost of the project is $175,312.00.
The Board also approved the purchase of two 78-passenger buses. The buses will replace several aging vehicles in the fleet and will be used for activities and serve as back-up route buses. The total purchase price for each bus is $199,850.00.
Dr. Jen Robinson, executive director of human resources and elementary education provided the Board with an update on the summer school programming recently completed. A total of 704 students participated in a variety of programs. 221 FHS students participated completing 258 courses earning 1,290 credit hours.
